Suffice to say she acted very calm when a machine gun was trained on her. During the battle raging around the hospital she acted with gallantry and cool leadership. They had taken in a wounded Japanese officer who succumbed to his injuries - Edith and I think the Acting Matron (Mary Currie) treated the Japanese officer's body with respect wrapping a Japanese flag he carried round his body - when the Japanese discovered this it may have averted the brutality (rape and killing) that happened at other hospitals in HK.
